Regency Friday Fun And Giveaway

On February 1, my novella will be released to the world!  It’s part of an anthology put out by Kensington Publishing called An Invitation To Sin, and it also contains stories by Jo Beverley, Sally MacKenzie, and Kaitlin O’Riley.  My novella is called The Pleasure Of A Younger Lover, and you can read an excerpt here.  It’s the story of a war widow who’s shut herself off from the world, and the dedicated soldier determined to win her love.

Like a lot of writers, I sometimes imagine certain actors or actresses playing my characters.  It’s a fun way to help flesh out my hero and heroine’s physical characteristics, and also more fully imagine their personalities.  For the hero of my novella, Captain Christian Archer, there was only one choice I had in mind:  Sean Bean in Sharpe.

Seriously, what’s not to love?

And since it’s Friday Fun, I’m giving away a book.  This week it’s Promise Me Tonight, by the talented historical romance author, Sara Lindsey. Just comment and tell me which actors you would cast as heroes in your favorite historical romances.

  1. Congrats on the novella coming out–I can’t wait to read it. 🙂

I don’t usually have anyone specific in mind when I’m writing, but on the current WIP Richard Armitage managed to sneak in there. LOL His lovely visage and that voice. . .okay, time to get back to work! LOL

  2. Hi Venessa

I would have to say when reading a historical romance novel and it comes to the characters , I always also take the images of actors , when the heroine has dark hair I tend to use Keira Knightly and with blond ones I picture someone like Katherine Heighl. But as for the hero’s of the book light haired ones is Ryan Phillpe and for the dark haired ones , I imagined Heath Ledger in most of them but sadly of course he has passed away so my I had to come up with a new one so new image that I conjured up is that of Orlando Bloom !
    All the best

  3. I too eagerly await the anthology.

I take the Frankenstein approach to casting novels. You know, Alan Rickman’s voice, George Clooney’s smile, Paul Newman’s eyes, etc. LOL

  4. I have always pictured them with dark hair even if they don`t. I love Hugh Jackman. as the female someone like Amy Adamson. Some times I get so absorbed in the book the looks don`t matter to me she is beautiful and he is handsome. I enjoy the story lines.

  5. I can’t wait to read your novella in “An Invitation To Sin” anthology, another great story for sure!!

I generally picture the hero’s just like Janga mentioned, a little of him, a pinch of him and a dash of him! All the “him”s” are of course to die for! LOL!!

Of course Sean Bean is a great choice, I watched all his SHARPE episodes on BBC.
I try and follow most of his movies as much as possible. He has a new mini series coming out in March that I plan to watch, can’t wait!

Here is a short list of some of the men I picture in books ~~ Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Eric Bana, Colin Firth, Viggo Mortenson, Ryan Reynolds, Colin Farrell….ok, way too many to list! LOL!!! 🙂

The women are always very pretty in my mind, so not really filling in the picture there, sorry.
Mostly they look like a Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Connelly, Claire Dane, Cameron Diaz.

  6. Currently I’m reading Jacquelyn Frank’s Pleasure. It is the 3rd in her shadowdweller series. The actor I see playing Sagan is Rutger Hauer as he was in Ladyhawke, only with black hair. He would make a perfect Sagan. I can also see Hugh Jackman playing Trace in the same book. I keep this up I’ll have the whole cast picked out. LOL I think I’ve got one picked out for Adrian Paul too. Geezzz. I gotta quit while I’m ahead.

  7. I don’t know which is the scruffier role for Sean Bean, Sharpe or Boromir.

I don’t really have a person in mind when I read a book for the hero or the heroine. Sure, flashes of hair color and such will stay with me but I don’t generally have a concrete picture of what the characters look like. Maybe I’m just lazy that way. 🙂

  8. My favorite actor is Aaron Eckhart and I often picture him as a romance hero. He has the most amazing smile. As a heroine I like to imagine someone like Kate Winslet.
