I’m really pleased to be featuring acclaimed paranormal and historical romance author Colleen Gleason to the blog. Colleen also writes Young Adult novels, and she’s got a fabulous new book out this week–the first in what is sure to be a really cool series about the sister of Bram Stoker (of Dracula fame) and the niece of Sherlock Holmes, who team up to solve mysteries in Victorian London.
The Clockwork Scarab is already getting great reviews, too:
“The author’s writing exudes energy, romance, and humor, and she gives her heroines strong, vibrant personalities as they puzzle out the expansive mystery unfolding before them.”—Publishers Weekly
“This book has it all… the vivid setting and the finely drawn, compelling heroines make this a fine choice for readers who like their stories with steampunk spice and smart, strong women.”—School Library Journal
Here’s the blurb:
Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you’re the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood.
And when two society girls go missing, there’s no one more qualified to investigate. Now fierce Evaline and logical Mina must resolve their rivalry, navigate the advances of not just one but three mysterious gentlemen, and solve murder with only one clue: a strange Egyptian scarab.
The stakes are high. If Stoker and Holmes don’t unravel why the belles of London society are in such danger, they’ll become the next victims.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? You can find out more about the book on the website dedicated to the new series. And check out this book trailer with a great steampunk vibe!
For my readers today, Colleen is giving away a $10 gift card to the winner’s choice of retailer. Just let us know which actors play your favorite version of Sherlock Holmes or Dracula for a chance to win!
Robert Downey, Jr. !!! Hands down the best SH 🙂 Thanks for sharing and congrats to Colleen on the newest release!
Love RB Jr.!
I have to agree, Robert Downey, Jr. played a wonderful Sherlock Holmes. Love the cover of this book!
Isn’t gorgeous, catslady?
Definitely Robert Downey Jr. For Sherlock Holmes! He’s so great in that role.
He was, Kelsey. I wish the scripts were better, but RD makes a fantastic Sherlock.
I asked my granddaughter and she agrees that it should be Robert Downey Jr. The book looks very interesting, I will have to order for her and read too!
I bet she’ll love it, Judy!
I do like Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock (or any other character), but I have to vote for Johnny Lee Miller in Elementary for my favorite version of Holmes. Going for the more serious version…
The book sounds great; crossover stories are fun.
I love Johnny Lee, but I have to say that I’m a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, too!
Cannot wait to read this one. I have it coming from the site I review for.
But oh man Robert Downey Jr alllll the way for Sherlock. He did excellent with that character.
RD is great!
Robert Downey, Jr and Jude Law really are the perfect team, better then I imagined while reading 🙂
Yeah, they were great, Aly!
Oh my! MY favorite is Daniel Davis (the butler on “The Nanny”) who portrayed Sherlock Holmes on Star Trek: Next Generation many moons ago, so to speak. Maybe it was the accent, LOL!
LOL! I remember that episode, Laney!
Michael Caine as Sherlock holmes and for Dracula, I’m not sure what his name was but it’s the one from the 1930’s movie 🙂
Bela Lugosi, Melissaz/
My favorite Sherlock is Jeremy Brett. My son and I watched every episode when the show he starred in aired on PBS.
Great series, Barb – love Jeremy Brett. The classic interpretation, I think.
haven’t seen those shows or movies, so no favs
You’re missing out, bn!
Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock is like WHOAH THIS IS CRAZY INSANE YOU ARE ACTUALLY SHERLOCK OMG. Ahem.
I’m really looking forward to the new Dracula show with Jonathan Rhys Meyers! He was fantastic in City of Bones.
LOL! I LOVE Benedict Cumberbatch in that role, Chelsea. And I too am looking forward to the new Dracula!
Of course Sherlock has to be Robert Downey Jr! Jude Law makes his perfect Watson too.
Current fav Dracula is Gary Oldman (if only because I love his acting so much). But with the new moving coming out. . . 🙂
Hubby and I love watching Elementary and Johnny Lee Miller is my fave Sherlock! Oh and although I haven’t seen the 1930s Dracula, I think Bela Lugosi is the epitome of how Count Dracula looks!
I am in love with Benedict Cumberbatch. He brings something quite unique to the role of Sherlock Holmes. Not just the modern aspect either.
Sorry, I have to go with the guy I grew up with, thanks to Mom – any Holmes and Watson that does not look like Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce just looks too weird to me! LOL (and I just had the non-sequiter type thought, she had the VHS tapes, I have the DVDs. Moving on…) 😀
